COACHELLA, Calif. — October 31, 2026. A potential skatepark improvement at Dateland Park appears in the City of Coachella’s October 2026 public planning records, an opportunity for residents to follow how new recreational space moves through government review.
The October 14 City Council agenda, Item 21, proposed determining that the Dateland Park Skatepark Project, City Project P-27, qualifies for a categorical environmental-review exemption for certain existing-facility or replacement work.
What the agenda establishes
The agenda documents that the city scheduled a decision concerning the project’s treatment under the California Environmental Quality Act. An agenda item alone does not verify its final vote, construction contract, opening date or completion. Those must be checked in the adopted minutes and subsequent project records.
Why neighborhood recreation matters
Skate facilities can offer young people space for outdoor activity, but safe design, maintenance, access and adequate supervision are important considerations. Neighbors may also seek information about hours, lighting and how the project fits within existing park use.
What residents can do
Ask the city’s parks and public works departments for the final approved design, funding source, safety requirements and projected timetable. For meeting records, consult the city website and published council agendas.
The project is not presented here as already built or open.
